Audi's luxury cars currently dominate sales for official use in China but since the beginning of 2008, the Chinese government have been granting licenses to products which are less harmful to the environment and urged all government departments to give these environmentally friendly products the priority.
The issuing of these new licenses will pave the way for more environmentally friendly industries and products in the Chinese market and is of particular benefit to companies like Beijing Benz-DaimlerChrysler Automotive who have long been working to build green' limousines. Audi has lost its place as the preferred government luxury car, and neither BMW nor Mercedes-Benz made the list either.
While the green rating and the green choices being encouraged by the government will level the playing field somewhat between Audi and DaimlerChrysler in China, Audi is expected to maintain its top spot as the luxury car of choice for official use because of its reputation and exiting relationships.
